The Iverson Bell Symposium is the oldest symposium in veterinary medicine dedicated to promoting racial and ethnic diversity in the veterinary profession.
The theme for this 16th Symposium is " Best Practices: Determined Dialogue Meets Innovative Action. " With the upcoming conference, the AAVMC seeks to:
· Explore best practices in moving beyond language that contsructs barriers to discussing diversity.
· Explore strategies for program development and expansion in an era of dwindling funding designated specifically for diversity programs.
· Examine the best practices in targeted recruiting and admissions practices for students and development and retention of faculty.
The symposium includes the presentation of the Iverson Bell Award at a special luncheon on Friday, March 2. The award is given in memory and recognition of Dr. Bell's outstanding leadership and contributions in the promotion of opportunities for underrepresented minorities in veterinary medical education. For more information or to submit a nomination contact Lisa Greenhill at lgreenhill@aavmc.org.
