AAVMC Policy
Addressing Societal Needs

Collectively, the accredited colleges of veterinary medicine educate graduates to meet numerous diverse needs in society. Veterinarians fill many varied roles in several different disciplines including public health; biomedical research and academia; government and military service; laboratory animal medicine; zoological, wildlife and environmental medicine; in addition to private clinical practice.

An accredited college should provide an environment that encourages a diversity of educational paths and should actively seek to enroll students with various backgrounds and diverse career interests. An accredited college should also provide a variety of advanced post-professional educational opportunities to enable veterinary graduates to achieve their full potential.
