AAVMC will host a Veterinary Medical College/Career Fair, in conjunction with the AAVMC Annual Meeting in Washington , DC . The career fair will be held on March 10, at the Wyndham Washington , DC . Once again, the fair will feature information sessions, refreshments and hopefully, great student turn out. Information will be distributed to students widely, with targeted information going to underrepresented students in the Washington , DC metropolitan area. The cost for AAVMC members will remain only $100 with proceeds going to support the DVM: DiVersity Matters Scholarship Fund. Institutions may register online at aavmc.org under future meetings!

AVMA Holds Inaugural Meeting of the Diversity Task Force

AVMA hosted its first meeting of its long awaited Diversity Task Force November 11-12 in Schaumburg , IL . AAVMC staff member Lisa Greenhill serves on this task force.

During this first meeting, the group grappled with creating working definitions, reviewing resource materials and identifying existing diversity initiatives within the profession. AAVMC's DiVersity Matters initiative was discussed frequently during the meeting and remains the profession's most organized diversity effort. The task force will meet again in March 2006.

2006 Minority Student Recruiting Opportunities

With nearly half of 2005 over and a swath of recruiting opportunities emerging for the coming fall, we are posting an updated list of conferences. AAVMC will have a presence at many of these meetings, and as always we will provide students with information from our schools that have sent materials throughout the year. We also invite schools to consider registering for an individual booth or possibly helping to staff the AAVMC booth.
