Several cosponsors have been added to
the Veterinary Workforce Expansion Act of 2005 (HR 2206/S 914).
Since November 1st, Representatives Neal (MA), Alexander (LA),
Schakowsky (IL), Barrow (GA), Scott (GA), Conaway (TX), Jenkins
(TN), Engel (NY), Boswell (LA) and Senator Collins (ME) have voiced
their support for expanding capacity at our nation's veterinary
colleges. We are anticipating action on this legislation in February.
We will keep you informed of any impending Congressional action
as we ask for support from members in contacting their representatives.
On November 10th, the President signed the Agriculture Appropriations
for FY 2006 into law. This bill funds the US Dept of
Agriculture and includes the $500,000 line item for a NVMSA pilot
program. The AAVMC is working closely with USDA to implement
the program as soon as possible.
