How is NAVMEC Governed?
AAVMC launched NAVMEC in 2009 and is providing the leadership for this initiative. The AAVMC Executive Committee (current AAVMC President, President-Elect, and Immediate Past-President), on behalf of the AAVMC Board of Directors, appointed members to the NAVMEC Board of Directors, representing the three pillars of NAVMEC, education, accreditation, and testing/licensure, which will make final decisions concerning NAVMEC policies, procedures, and outcome.
The nine person NAVMEC Board is designed to support significant and meaningful advances in veterinary medicine education. It's the first Board ever comprised equally of representatives of licensure/testing, eduction, and accreditation - the entities most responsible for addressing societal needs that veterinarians should deliver.
The NAVMEC Board of Directors has determined that prior to finalizing any guidance, outcomes or direction, all co-sponsors, as members of the Advisory Panel, will have the opportunity to review and provide suggestions and guidance to the Board prior to making any outcomes public.
A Project Manager, Dr. Mary Beth Leininger, and Facilitator, Dr Ken Andrews were selected during the summer, 2009. They will work closely with the NAVMEC Board of Directors in the planning and scheduling of NAVMEC meetings, and setting milestones for the final “national report”. Biographical background for Drs Andrews and Leininger can be viewed here.
