The Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC) represents its member institutions in its collective dealings with governmental bodies, veterinary medical organizations, the animal and human health industry, educational and scientific organizations and the public. The association also promotes the priority areas of academic veterinary medicine, which include: increasing human resources, infrastructure support and research funding; providing adequate financial support for students and the overall diversification of the veterinary medical profession.
AAVMC is involved in the collection and publication of statistical data detailing all aspects of academic veterinary medicine, the publication of the Journal of Veterinary Medical Education (JVME) and the Veterinary Medical School Admission Requirements (VMSAR) handbook. In addition, the Association owns and operates the Veterinary Medical College Application Service (VMCAS). VMCAS is the central distribution, collection and processing service for applications to veterinary medical colleges. AAVMC also sponsors national symposia and conferences to provide a forum to develop creative solutions to national and international problems, related to veterinary medical education, animal health, and food safety.
