The Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges' (AAVMC) standing committees examine different issues affecting the profession and report to the association's board of directors. Special projects are frequently assigned to ad hoc committees or task forces. Committees and task forces are comprised of deans, department heads, associate deans, and faculty. An AAVMC staff member serves as liaison to each group.
Appointment to an existing committee or task force is at the discretion of the association's president, and the president may also establish a new committee or task force and assign a charge to the group. The president then informs the association's board of directors of these actions. The bylaws state that a committee appointment last three years.
