Important dates to remember
- June 4 , 2008: The 2009 VMCAS Web Application becomes available.
- October 2nd, 2008: Your VMCAS application, three completed evaluations, and fees are due by noon eastern time on Oct. 2nd.
Getting Started
The VMCAS application consists of 13 sections with instructions. After creating an account, applicants can go back to the application to complete it at their convenience, up until the final deadline. All questions are mandatory unless otherwise noted.
Record your user name and password in a secure and easy-to-remember location. If you lose your username or password, click on the link to retrieve that information on the login page. Establish only one VMCAS account per year, as creating multiple accounts in a single calendar year could jeopardize your application.
VMCAS applications from previous years cannot be used for this year's admission process. VMCAS does not provide applicants with their evaluations from previous years. VMCAS will accept evaluations from a previous application cycle only if you or some other source provides them.
Your Web browser must be enabled for JavaScript to use VMCAS. VMCAS recommends using the most current version of Internet Explorer to complete and print the application.
Completing and Submitting the Web Application
Once you have finished all necessary sections, please review your application carefully for accuracy. Remember to print your completed application for your records before submitting it to VMCAS. You will no longer be able to print your application once it closes for the season. Applicants cannot change any information on the application after it has been submitted to VMCAS. If you need to change your contact information, send this information directly to your designated colleges. Do not send a printed copy of your web application through the mail.
You must deliver the application electronically to VMCAS before the deadline. VMCAS recommends that you submit your application at least two weeks before the deadline to avoid possible Web congestion caused by heavy applicant traffic and other Internet traffic. High applicant traffic can cause severe delays within the VMCAS Web application, such as slow response times, time outs, and difficulty logging into the application. These conditions could cause you to miss the deadline.
About eLOR: Electronic Letters of Recommendation
eLOR is a mandatory section of your VMCAS Web application. You must register your evaluators in this section. You can register a maximum of five evaluators in the eLOR system. You must register at least three.
By completing the evaluations electronically, applicants can track the progress of their recommendation letters over the Internet. Evaluators will find eLOR remarkably simple to use. Filling out the evaluation form using the secure system is quick and straightforward, and personal letters of recommendation can easily be incorporated into the form.
Here's How eLOR Works
Applicants should first enter their evaluators' information
When you register your evaluator, an e-mail is automatically generated and sent to your evaluators containing instructions and their unique user names and passwords. The evaluators will use these to access a secure portion of the Web application and complete your evaluation.
We recommend that you contact your evaluators in advance to make sure they are available to assist you. You should also notify them of application deadlines and the dates that evaluations are due.

Test Scores
Each participating VMCAS college requires a standardized test as a prerequisite for admission. Be certain to read the standardized examination and test date requirements for each college to which you are applying. Applicants must arrange to have scores from all standardized tests sent to their chosen VMCAS colleges as soon as the scores are available. If your test scores are not immediately reported, your selected college(s) may not consider your application for admission. Make sure that your identifying information (name and date of birth) is exactly the same on your test score as on your application records.
If applying to multiple schools with the same test requirement, take the appropriate test no later than the earliest deadline date.
VMCAS colleges may not accept standardized test scores that are older than two to three years. VMCAS recommends that applicants take all required standardized tests prior to Fall 2008 to ensure that all institutional test deadlines are met. If a school requires Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores, complete all three sections in the examination: Verbal, Quantitative, and Analytical. International applicants may also be required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and/or other English proficiency tests. Please read all application instructions and contact selected institutions directly for more information about all standardized test requirements.
A note about the VCAT®: As of April 2003, The Psychological Corporation is no longer administering the VCAT test. Please contact your designated school for their policy on submitting old VCAT scores.

Transcripts
All colleges of veterinary medicine (CVMs) require an official transcript for each of the institutions that you have attended. These transcripts must be sent directly to the CVM to which you are applying and not to VMCAS. In most instances, applicants will need to contact the registrar's office to obtain an official transcript. There may be a charge involved with ordering these copies. Make sure to order enough copies for each CVM to which you are applying.
If you took classes as part of an education abroad program , you should not list the international institution on your institution list. In this case, your education abroad courses will appear on your U.S. (or Canadian) institutional transcript as regular credit. If you mistakenly list your education abroad institution in the Postsecondary Schools Attended section, VMCAS colleges may stop processing your application to wait for a separate transcript report from that institution.
If
you took classes overseas that were not part of an education abroad
program , the VMCAS
colleges require a foreign transcript evaluation report from one
of the three transcript evaluation services listed below, for
each foreign institution you attended. Some CVMs may have slightly
different policies on this, so we strongly encourage applicants
to contact the schools for more information if their descriptor
page does not provide an answer. Failure to submit the international
evaluation report may halt the processing of your application
and your file will be incomplete.
