The Wellbeing Committee is an advisory committee to the AAVMC Board of Directors. The committee serves to support Strategic Goal 4.2 – Promote a climate of wellbeing and belonging throughout academic veterinary medicine.
Charge
● Provide relevant information to AAVMC initiatives, programs, committees, and task forces that contribute to the improvement of systems and the overall wellbeing of the academic veterinary medical community.
o Make recommendations to colleges on how to sustainably and systemically integrate wellbeing into veterinary medical colleges—both in the curriculum and the workplace environment
o Amplify evidence-based approaches and promising practices
o Provide guidance around systemic initiatives that can strengthen retention and occupational satisfaction of students, faculty, and staff
o Develop and/or compile tools to provide students, faculty, and staff with the wellbeing competencies necessary to be thriving and resourceful professionals
● Develop and/or collaborate on wellbeing-related conferences and symposia.
Composition
The Wellbeing Committee is composed of members who have wellbeing initiatives as a part of their portfolio. These individuals may be Academic Veterinary Wellbeing Professionals, CVM Deans, Associate Deans, Assistant Deans, or faculty, who have wellbeing as part of their institutional responsibilities and/or the requisite experience and expertise in this subject matter. The membership of the Wellbeing Committee will be comprised of seven geographically diverse members with at least two members representing Region II (Canada), III (Europe), or IV (Australia, New Zealand, Asia). The Wellbeing Committee will recommend to the AAVMC President, one member of its nominated leadership group to serve as Chair-Elect. The Chair-Elect will serve as Chair during their second year of service on the committee, and as Former Chair during their last year of service.
Members of the Wellbeing Committee are selected through the AAVMC annual call for volunteers and serve a term of three years and will be eligible for reappointment once to a maximum of two terms. The committee may put forward recommendations for subcommittees on an as-needed basis, by a majority vote. Subcommittee recommendations will be approved by the governance committee. Subcommittee appointments will be based on skillsets and competencies needed for effectiveness of the subgroups.
