Emma Read

Emma Read, an internationally renowned veterinary educator, joined AAVMC as Chief Executive Officer in February 2026.

Read graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine and completed a large animal surgery residency at the University of Georgia. She then served as faculty at the Ontario Veterinary College, before joining the University of Calgary as Clinical Skills Program Chair. She later served as Associate Dean Academic and Interim Dean.

In 2018, Read joined The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine as Associate Dean for Professional Programs and led a major curricular redesign, an accreditation site visit, and the Spectrum of Care initiative during the next seven years.

Read is a founding member of AAVMC’s Council for Outcomes-Based Veterinary Education, was founding co-chair of AAVMC’s Council for International Veterinary Medical Education, and served as President of the American Association of Equine Practitioners in 2022.
