The Academic Leadership Committee is an Advisory Committee to the AAVMC Board of Directors. The Committee serves to support the specific AAVMC Strategic Goal 3 by recommending, assessing and supporting initiatives that expose our faculty, academic staff and academic administrators to leadership training opportunities, applicable to the multiple levels of leadership recognized at our academic institutions. The committee recognizes that such initiatives will be designed to strengthen the development and retention of a diverse and fulfilled group of leaders who will progress their careers within academic institutions and the profession at-large.
The committee will be comprised of five to seven deans, associate deans, department heads or other interested faculty or staff from AAVMC member institutions. Committee members will serve terms of three years and will be eligible for reappointment once to a maximum of two terms. Members of the leadership committee are nominated through the AAVMC annual call for volunteers. The Academic Leadership Committee will elect a chair who will serve in a one-year term with the option to renew for one additional year. The Chair will be elected in conjunction with the AAVMC Annual Conference.
