Dr. Christina Sigurdson

Dr. Christina Sigurdson is a professor of pathology at the University of California, San Diego, where she is a co-director of the Center for Veterinary Sciences and Comparative Medicine. She is also a professor of pathology, microbiology, and immunology at the University of California, Davis. Before arriving at UC San Diego, she earned a BS in biology at UC Riverside, and a DVM at UC Davis. She then completed an anatomical pathology residency and a PhD with Dr. Edward Hoover studying the pathogenesis of chronic wasting disease in cervids at Colorado State University.

Following postdoctoral work at the University of Zürich in Switzerland with Dr. Adriano Aguzzi investigating the structural basis of cross species prion transmission, she joined the faculty at UC San Diego and UC Davis where she continues studies of amyloid and neurodegenerative disease in humans and experimental models. She has been active in training research veterinarians in her laboratory and in mentoring veterinary scientists and undergraduates interested in careers in veterinary medicine.
