WASHINGTON, D.C., October 2, 2024 — American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC) is excited to announce that Dr. Stuart Reid, President and Principal of the Royal Veterinary College, London, has accepted the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) effective August 1, 2025.
Following a thorough and strategic search, which attracted a highly qualified pool of applicants from diverse backgrounds, we are pleased to welcome Dr. Reid. He is a distinguished veterinary academic leader with over two decades of experience as a dean and a wealth of leadership experience. He will be instrumental in advancing the organization and academic veterinary medicine while ensuring a sustainable future for the veterinary profession.
“I am delighted to be joining the AAVMC and to play a role in developing and promoting academic veterinary medicine on the international stage. Building on Dr. Maccabe’s tenure and working with the AAVMC Board and Assembly of Deans, there has never been a time of greater need for veterinary professionals. I look forward to resolving the challenges faced by our academic institutions and strengthening the profession and relationships with our stakeholders,” said Dr. Stuart Reid.
Dr. Reid brings an impressive track record, having served as Dean of the University of Glasgow School of Veterinary Medicine from 2005-2011 and as Principal and President of the Royal Veterinary College from 2011-present. He has also made significant contributions to AAVMC, including serving twice on the AAVMC Board as secretary and leading the charge on critical initiatives. Dr. Reid serves as President-Elect but will step down immediately to avoid conflicts of interest. Until Dr. Reid assumes his position, our dedicated senior staff will continue to provide exceptional leadership during this transition period, with support from the executive committee and the board.
“As President of the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC) and chair of the CEO search committee, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the search committee members—Drs. Ruby Perry, Sue Tornquist, and Jeff Wichtel—for their unwavering commitment throughout this process,” said Dr. Rustin Moore, Dean of The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. “I would also like to extend special recognition to our senior staff, including Ms. Dotty Gray (Interim CEO and COO), Dr. Lisa Greenhill (Chief Diversity Officer and Senior Director for Institutional Research), and Dr. Ted Mashima (Chief Strategy Officer), as well as the entire AAVMC staff, for their continued dedication. Additionally, I want to acknowledge the board of directors for their steadfast support during this important transition.”
