Liaison representing SAVMA (non-voting)
My name is Stefanie Contreras, and I am currently a second-year veterinary student at the University of Arizona College of Veterinary Medicine. Originally from Laredo, a border town in South Texas, I earned my Bachelor of Science from Texas A&M International University in 2017.
At the University of Arizona, I am honored to represent my fellow students as the Senior Delegate for the Student American Veterinary Medical Association (SAVMA). In addition to this role, I serve as Vice President of the Student Government, President of the Shelter Medicine Club, and Secretary of the LatinX Veterinary Medical Association (LVMA). These positions allow me to advocate for my peers and contribute to various initiatives within the veterinary community.
I am deeply grateful for the unwavering support of my family, who have invested as much in my future as I have. My parents are happily retired in Texas, and my three siblings also reside there. Outside of my academic and leadership roles, I enjoy cooking authentic Mexican dishes, staying active through exercise, and spending time with family and friends. I am also a proud pet owner of a Great Pyrenees named Lucy and an orange tabby named Bill.
My professional interests include shelter medicine and small animal practice, with a focus on serving underserved communities and improving the welfare of animals in shelters. Upon graduation, I aim to continue advocating for and supporting these communities through compassionate and accessible veterinary care.
